A Family Business
Established in 1969 as Lorne Mix Trucking, Lorne & Tina Mix started their business with a single-axle gravel truck. They soon recognized the significant advantage of providing both the supply and delivery of aggregate resources to meet the increasing needs of the road building and construction industry. In the early 1970’s, they formed L&T Mix Sand & Gravel Ltd. (L&T) to serve the rapidly expanding City of Leduc.
With the opening of Matejka Pit, L&T secured an excellent long-term supply of quality sand and gravel, and in 1978 they purchased their first crusher. This enabled them to provide a more diverse range of products to their customers.
Throughout the years L&T constantly upgraded equipment and vehicles in order to provide the best customer services. Additionally, L&T continued to source new supplies of sand and gravel, one of Alberta’s most abundant natural resources.
As a boy growing up in the shadow of Alberta’s famous Leduc #1 oil well site, Lorne Mix developed a love of big trucks. He started the company with one truck, but soon realized that success would depend on being able to provide reliable, on-time delivery of every order. That meant ensuring L&T had the most efficient hauling systems, the right trucks for the job.
In 1972 Lorne introduced the tandem-axle gravel hauling trailers known as ‘pups’ to the local market, and in 1974 L&T became one of the first users of the tri-axle trailers for hauling aggregates in the area. In 1982 Lorne designed a unique quad-axle trailer for their use, and later introduced the B-train side dump unit, again improving performance of the L&T fleet and increasing the company’s efficiency within the industry.
After working for the company for several years, Lorne & Tina’s son Terry founded Mixcor Aggregates Inc. In 2002 Mixcor purchased the assets of L&T Mix Sand & Gravel Ltd., and added a portable wash plant to complement the two dry crushing spreads and ten gravel hauling units already in the fleet.
Mixcor operates in the Central Alberta aggregates market from Edmonton to Red Deer and has access to supply pits in other Alberta locales including Calgary, Sundre, Drumheller, Coronation, Two Hills and Viking.
In response to the construction boom in Alberta, Mixcor continues to add heavy haul trucks to the fleet, expands crushing capacity with the acquisition of new equipment, and secures supply through pit development.
Mixcor has become a major supplier in the Edmonton regional market. This has been achieved by being a trustworthy partner to our customers. Our business strength is our commitment to serve our customers to the best of our ability, one truckload at a time.
